Albion's season came to an end with a 1-0 defeat to League One champions Swansea.

Although the game had a definite end of season feel to it there was no evidence of any flip-flops being worn by the players, and both sides went fully in search of the win here.

Jason Scotland, in fact, was wearing League One's golden boots, and the Swansea striker had the first chance of the afternoon as he powered through the Albion defence, but his finish let him down.

Shortly afterwards Albion's leading scorer, Nicky Forster, almost netted his 20th of the campaign with a clever back header that only just missed the far post.

The league champions, as you might expect, looked dangerous going forward, and Thomas Butler came close numerous times as he teased Andrew Whing before cutting inside on his right foot. Three times the midfielder fired wide, on the other occasion Michel Kuipers saved well to his left.

The Swans were equally threatening on the other flank through Paul Anderson, and Kuipers made a brilliant double stop to twice deny the lively winger.

It was Albion who should have been ahead at the interval when Murray converted Dean Cox's cross from five yards, but referee Anthony Taylor adjudged that the midfielder had fouled Denis Lawrence in the build up.

Swansea had Albion under the cosh for the opening stages of the second half, and again Kuipers did well to save from Anderson, before beating away a header from Scotland.

Albion survived this opening volley, and Jake Robinson almost broke the deadlock when he cut inside on his left foot, only to be denied by a terrific save from Dorus De Vries.

The Seagulls were working hard to stay on level terms with the visitors, but in the 73rd minute, Roberto Martinez threw on Shaun MacDonald and Febian Brandy and the duo had an almost immediate effect.

MacDonald got behind Matt Richards on the right, and pulled the ball back to the waiting Brandy, and even Albion's player of the season, Tommy Elphick, couldn't stop the substitute's shot from crossing the line.

So Swansea waved goodbye to League One with their 27th victory of the campaign, before receiving their trophy in front of their travelling supporters.

For the Seagulls, today serves as something to aspire to next season.
