Albion have handed Adam Hinshelwood a three-month contract as he looks to finally overcome the knee injury which has dogged him for the last three years.

The 24-year-old defender's contract was up at the end of June, but he has been making promising progress, and the club has handed him a short-term deal as he bids to prove his fitness.

Dick Knight explained, "Adam has had a tough few years, but the medical staff are very pleased with his recent progress and hopeful of him making a recovery.

"Taking into account their advice, and that of the manager, and most importantly Adam's absolute determination to recover, we have decided it was right to offer him this chance to prove his fitness."

Micky Adams added, "I have been very impressed with the hard work that Adam has put into his rehabilitation; I have never seen anybody work harder than him in a bid to get back to full fitness and he now deserves this opportunity to show us he still has a future within the game."

Hinshelwood admits he faces a make or break few weeks ahead, which will ultimately determine his football future.

However he is cautiously optimistic, after his latest operation, and having made a return to light training, he is currently on course for an October return to match fitness.

"It's a case of so far so good," Hinshelwood explained, "but it is a slow process. I have worked hard to build up the knee during my rehabilitation phase and I have started some light training.

"During the next stage of rehab I will be joining in more and more with the regular training and really be able to test the knee to the full; then by October I am hoping to be ready to play some games."
