Albion Chairman Dick Knight has moved swiftly to reassure supporters following the club's reporting of pre-tax losses of £2.8 million in the year ending June 2007.

Knight said, "The results were predictable in the circumstances, representing the combined effects of relegation to League One in 2006/07 (gate receipts, Football League and other revenue fell by over £1.1 million on the previous year) and a further £500k plus expenditure on the Falmer stadium project (raising the total to £3.6 million)."

"However, despite these big added blows to the bottom line, judicious house-keeping of our budgets meant that operating losses increased by only £461k on the previous year (£2.691m against £2.230m to June 2006)."

"The losses have been contained by additional shareholder funding and the Board continues to press forward with the stadium plans."

Knight added, "The results spell out the urgent need for the new stadium, with all the economic benefits it will bring. Let no-one be in any doubt of our determination to deliver this prized asset for the community."
