Albion chairman Dick Knight has told seagulls.co.uk of his immense pride after the club scooped two gongs at the Football League Awards last night.

Paul Samrah, chairman of the Falmer for all Campaign, picked up the opening award of the night at the glitzy ceremony after he was voted Fan of the Year for a decade of battling for Albion's new stadium.

Knight said, "As I said a few days ago no football club owes a greater debt than the one Brighton & Hove Albion owes its supporters. Their campaign, orchestrated by Paul Samrah, in the long battle for Falmer was unprecedented in its originality, scale and sheer determination to succeed.

"On behalf of the club and all Albion fans, I'm delighted that Paul's brilliant leadership and hard work has been recognised with this national award. He truly is a very special supporter, and we're proud he's one of ours."

Albion in the Community's RSL Football Inclusion Project was then voted best Community Initiative for League One, which the club can now put alongside the award  for Best Community Club in the Football League won at last year's event.

Knight added, "What can you say about our community project? To win a national award for the second year running is absolutely brilliant, and just shows you what a football club can do in its community.

"We've proved once again that the Albion cares about people right across the region we represent. It demonstrates the power of football to do good, and I hope Sussex people are proud of their only Football League club today."
